About Direct Dine

What is Direct Dine?

Your own online ordering website for delivery and collection, with a live kitchen screen, printer support, QR table ordering and a customer list. Customers order from you directly instead of through a delivery app.

Who is it for?

Independent UK takeaways, restaurants, cafés and food vans: Chinese, Indian, pizza, burgers, kebabs, cafés and more. You don't need any technical knowledge.

Does it replace Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats?

It works alongside them. Many venues keep the apps for new customers and move their regulars to their own site, where they keep the 30% the apps would take.

Do I need my own drivers?

Yes, Direct Dine handles the ordering, not the delivery. You set your own delivery area, fees and minimum order, or switch delivery off and offer collection only.

Pricing and the free trial

How much does it cost?

Starter is £29 a month and Pro is £42.99 a month, plus VAT. There's no set-up fee, no contract and no commission on orders. See plans and billing for what each includes.

Do you really take no commission?

Yes. The monthly fee is all we charge. If you take card payments online, your payment provider (such as Stripe or SumUp) charges its usual card fee, the same as in your shop.

How does the free trial work?

You get 30 days with every feature switched on, and no card is needed to start. Choose a plan whenever you're ready; if you subscribe during the trial, billing starts when the trial ends.

What happens if I don't choose a plan when the trial ends?

Your ordering site stops taking orders and your dashboard becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted: choose a plan and it all comes straight back.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. There's no contract. Cancel in Plan & billing and everything keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for.

Taking payments

How do customers pay?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe, SumUp or Dojo, by PayPal, or in person when they collect or when the driver arrives. You choose which to offer.

When do I get my money?

Online payments go straight into your own payment account and are paid out on your provider's normal schedule. Direct Dine never holds your money.

Can I use the card provider I already have?

If it's Stripe, SumUp or Dojo, yes. Connect it in Online payments. If you use another provider in the shop, you can still use Stripe or PayPal online.

Setting up

How long does it take to set up?

Most takeaways are taking orders the same evening. Photograph your paper menu and we'll type it in for you to check. See getting set up.

Do I need special equipment?

No. The kitchen screen and till run in a web browser on any tablet, laptop or PC you already have. A receipt printer is optional.

Will it work with my printer?

Very likely. Epson and Star network printers print orders by themselves, any USB receipt printer works from a PC, and Zebra label printers are supported too. See which printers work.

Can I use my own web address?

Yes, on both plans. Point a domain like orders.yourtakeaway.co.uk at us with one DNS record and we handle the padlock certificate. Everyone also gets yourname.directdine.co.uk. See using your own web address.

Can I change how my site looks?

Yes. Pick from six designs made for different kinds of food, add your logo, a banner photo, your colours and a photo gallery. See changing your site's look.

Orders and running the kitchen

How will I know when an order comes in?

It appears on the kitchen screen with a loud alarm that keeps ringing until someone accepts it, and prints if you have a printer. You can also get a text or email if an order is left waiting. See missed-order alerts.

What if we get too busy?

Press Pause orders on the kitchen screen for 15 minutes, an hour or the rest of the night. Your site tells customers when you'll be back.

Does my site close by itself when we close?

Yes, once you set your opening hours. You can also add holidays, and choose whether customers can order ahead for later. See opening hours.

Can customers choose sizes and extras?

Yes: sizes, toppings, sauces, spice levels and meal-deal choices, each with their own prices. See sizes, extras and meal deals.

How are allergies handled?

You mark the allergens in each dish, customers can filter the menu by them, and every customer must say at checkout whether anyone has an allergy. Allergy orders are flagged in large type on the kitchen screen and tickets.

Can my staff use it without seeing everything?

Yes. Give each person their own login as Staff (kitchen, till and bookings) or Manager. Only the owner sees billing and payments. See staff logins.

Your data

Who owns the customer data?

You do. Customer details and marketing consent belong to your venue. You can export them any time, and we never market to your customers.

Is it secure?

Every site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed (scrambled so nobody, including us, can read them), card details are handled by your payment provider and never touch our servers, and each venue's data is kept separate from every other venue's.

Can I leave and take my data with me?

Yes. Export your customer list as a spreadsheet whenever you like, before or after cancelling.

Try it free for 30 days. No card needed.
